Who we are

We take kids fishing. The San Diego Rod & Reel Club is a 501(c)(7) non-profit fishing club that has been running strong since 1982 — club tournaments, member charters, and monthly meetings that are informative and a whole lot of fun. We partner with local organizations to take under-privileged youth fishing, free of charge. Being part of the club puts you shoulder-to-shoulder with anglers who hold a wealth of local sport-fishing knowledge — and we bring in top experts to speak at our meetings, so you are guaranteed to sharpen your fishing as a member.

The club was founded in 1982 by Stephen “Bad Dog” Ross in his living room, as a way to organize tournaments and charters during peak charter season, working with local shops to donate prizes for the top anglers. Ross passed away in 2019; the club he started is still going strong. Not sure yet? You are always welcome to come as a guest. We meet the first Thursday of every month at 6:00 PM at VFW Pacific Beach Post 5985, 853 Turquoise Street, San Diego, CA 92109. Each meeting features a guest speaker on saltwater sportfishing, members swapping recent adventures, and a great raffle with fishing tackle for prizes, including rods and reels. The club is family-oriented, so bring the kids along too.
